Drone Stage I

A ready-to-use platform for future work on autonomy and vision-based learning control.

Project Overview

Stage one of my carbon fiber drone project, which is intended to serve as a platform for future work in automation and vision-based learning approaches. The drone was assembled using off-the-shelf components; however, system compatibility was designed and analyzed using the eCalc website. The drone also includes custom-designed and 3D-printed parts.

The Drone

eCalc Analysis Results

The most important outcome of the eCalc analysis is determining whether the drone is properly assembled and capable of flight. This allows us to then examine deeper details, including power consumption, thrust-to-weight ratio, electrical load, and flight duration. Based on the results, the drone is well designed and capable of smooth flight; however, a battery with higher voltage and greater capacity could be beneficial in providing additional thrust to accommodate the payload and extend flight time.

Custom Parts

The custom-designed parts include, from left to right, an electronic speed controller (ESC) holder, a camera mount serving as the main payload, and a housing for the safety switch.

Future Plan

A major focus of the drone’s development is the integration of cameras and sensors to enable vision-based control.

Clark Y RC Aircraft

A handmade radio-controlled (RC) aircraft built with foam board to test the classic Clark Y airfoil.

Project Overview

In this project, I built a full RC aircraft for fun! And to test the effect of the Clark Y airfoil on flight duration and gliding performance.

Clark Y Airfoil

The Clark Y airfoil is a popular choice for RC aircraft due to its simple geometry, flat lower surface, and reliable lift characteristics. It provides good lift at low speeds, making it well suited for stable flight, efficient gliding, and longer flight durations. These features make the Clark Y airfoil especially attractive for experimental and hobbyist RC aircraft designs.

F117 RC Aircraft

Project Overview

This build was one of my earliest projects: an RC aircraft shaped after the F-117 Nighthawk fighter. Unfortunately, it crashed during its maiden flight and was destroyed.
